Ur programmet:
"The last ten to fifteen years have witnessed increases in migration and new patterns of mobility with profound consequences at the global, regional, national and local levels. In response to these changes, migration debate and policy have also been in a period of ferment and public discussion on migration has become ever more febrile. Too often theorising is considered an ivory tower indulgence, rather than recognised as having the potential to elucidate and inform public opinion and policymakers. This conference will bring together theorists from different disciplines, including those not traditionally linked with migration studies, in order to evaluate what theory has to offer contemporary debate and public discourse on migration issues. Discussion will consider recent trends in public debate, the theoretical questions that the public debate raises, the extent to which these have been addressed and gaps in theoretical understanding and analysis. We will take as our starting point three key themes consistently appearing in public debate: illegal migration, integration and migrant workers."
